The
Country Fair Is Coming
Each year, each classroom
picks a theme for a basket to be autioned off at the School Country Fair.
Students are asked to bring in new items that can go in the theme basket or
money donations. Our basket this year is a "School Supplies" Basket.
A letter was sent home in April with the item suggestions for your child to
bring. We need those turned in as soon as possible. If you are unable to get
the item you can help by sending a donation towards the purchase of the items.
The fair will be held May 16th but all basket items most be collected by May
8th. Thank you in advance for your help with getting our basket filled.
This month, Ceidy and Raquel will receive the Caring Awards given out at Flagdeck on May 1st. They showed outstanding traits of Caring, our Character Counts theme for April and the beginning of May. The Character Counts theme of being a good citizen starts on May 4th. Two of the students in our classroom who show outstanding citizenship traits during this theme will be rewarded with a certificate on the last Thursday of school, June 18th.
Our last art master lecture will be on artist Marc Chagall. The lecture will be at the end of May and the class activity the first Monday in June.. Visit our Gallery to learn about each artist the students have learned about and to see their projects.
Theme 9 of our Reading Program is called Special Friends. The theme concept is that some friendships are special. We will be reading about special animal friends like: guide dogs and helper monkeys. One of our stories is about a boy and the special friendship he has with his grandpa. Some students make friends in kindergarten and first grade that they will have all through their lives. Ask your child about his friends at school.
Mathematics
This month the students finish up Chapter
12 (Geometry) and start on Chapter
14 (Adding and Subtracting 2 digit numbers), May 7th. Being familiar with
tens and counting by tens helps students to understand adding and subtracting
2 digit numbers. The students can practice adding and subtracting at our Computer
Center web page at the math link. Encourage you child to practice math just
like you encourage him or her to practice their reading. Playing flashcards
with them will increase their speed and ability to recall their number facts.
They should master their addition and subtraction facts to 20 before second
grade.
HAPPY
BIRTHDAY!! |
